Flow of Madness

I read tons and tons of Skins commentary and comments. Most of it I ignore and some make me really think. 

I was reading some comments about how people think that Rich is being a bit out of character when it comes to two things.

1. Not fighting to go to the funeral.

2. Leaving randomly and without proper notice to his friends. 

Now I am going to explain why I do not think that those things are out of character at all. 

He’s Metal! He would force his way to that funeral! 

I think that seeing Professor Blood on those stairs and seeing the amount of pain that he was in. Softened Rich’s resolve when it comes to trying to rebel and fight against Blood. I think if that scene never happened and Blood said he couldn’t come there would be nothing stopping Hardbeck from getting to his girlfriend. However I think Rich understands that Blood loves Grace. Even though he is a control freak worried about appearances he really did love his daughter. Because of that knowledge Rich did not have that burning desire to fight back and lash out against him. 

I also think that even though Rich has widened his horizons and has allowed himself to be open to new people and ideas. He is still a cynical intellectual person. Rich really is smart. I think that he would think funerals to be silly and ridiculous. The funeral has nothing to do with Grace it has everything to do with the Blood family. Funerals are trivial he knows Grace and he will say goodbye to her in a way that actually means something. Not some social convention bullshit where everyone puts on their Sunday best and says empty words about a girl they may or may not have known well. I honestly think that Rich would detest the entire scene. 

So I think with the combination of him thinking funerals as a stupid fake social convention along with no desire to put Blood in his place. Rich would not push to go to the funeral. He would let it be. Because he doesn’t need a funeral to remember her…the real her…not the idea of her like most funerals tend to be about. 

Where the fuck is Rich?! 

Some people have said that they think it is absolutely weird that Rich left. Why would he leave? Especially with his parents? 

I think he needed to get away. I don’t blame him for that. Alo is preoccupied with Mini at the moment. Liv is upset about the decision to not go to the funeral. Everything is reminding him of Grace. He probably goes to college and people look at him with sympathetic eyes. Looking at him like he is liable to break. All the while feeling like complete and utter crap. I don’t blame him for wanting to leave for wanting some space. I also think it is very Rich. Gets fed up, gets pissed, and then storms off to cool down. I bet he’s not doing anything with his parents just taking walks and smoking cigarettes and calling to hear Grace on her voicemail machine over and over again.

I want him to come back. But I want him to come back with a clear head so I am glad he took that time to go off on his own.
