I write about pop culture and life in a philosophical way. Main topics include Skins, Harry Potter, Doctor Who, The Big Bang Theory, Avatar: The Last Airbender, and Ed Sheeran. I will also include anything else that tickles me. Feel free to say hi. Always glad to hear from all of you. Thank you for existing. |
This is the second part of my series that examines the relationships that Grace had with the rest of the gang. These posts are meant to examine the friendship and the grieving process of the individual in regards to Grace. In my opinion was the most devastating death Skins could have come up with, because of Grace’s connections with everyone.
The second part of the series is dedicated to examining the friendship that Mini McGuinness had with the beautiful Grace Violet.

Friendship:
When we met Grace and Mini we saw them at pivotal time in their friendship. Mini was clinging onto both Liv and Grace for dear life. To understand how Mini loves you need to understand who she is. She is someone who has severe control and abandonment issues that can be explained by her absentee father and attention seeking mother. It is true that Mini’s mother does ultimately care about her daughter; however, she has encouraged Mini’s fear of being abandoned especially by the male species. When we meet Mini we see her bossing around Grace and Grace stating that Mini does not really know her. So with all of this how is it that Grace and Mini had a wonderful friendship? They had an imperfect relationship. Mini has a way of showing her affection in the wrong way she has done in time and time again. I have no doubts that she loves Grace with all her heart though. When Mini is around Grace I think she gets reminded that she should smile and have a laugh instead of being mega controlling. I also think they make each other laugh. Grace cared about Mini enough to doubt whether or not she should start up with Rich in fear that she would lose Mini she honestly cared what Mini thought. Ultimately I think that Mini and Grace had a friendship of laughter and fun. Grace had a way of getting Mini to come back down to earth and Mini I think was quite protective of Grace. They have a friendship that is filled with strong happy memories and deep love for one another.
Grieving:
Of course after Mini’s episode we learn that Mini has so much to deal with. One of those things is of course the loss of Grace. In Rich’s episode we see that Mini’s face softens and she asks Rich why he never called her when Grace woke up. That to me moved me in a way. Despite the awkward situation she was in and the anger she may have for Alo talking without thinking she wanted to know and was hurt that Rich never thought to call her. In Alex’s episode we see that Mini is closed up and refuses to talk to Liv about Grace. She even says to Liv on the boat at the end of the episode that she didn’t want to talk to Liv and even if she did that it does not feel right without “her.” In Mini’s episode, Alo is looking through Mini’s photo album and starts asking her questions about a few of the pictures that involved Grace. Mini’s face was priceless. She was smiling out of pure love and happiness at the memory then her face slowly turns to longing and grief for her friend. I often wonder what would happen if Grace was still around if Mini would have told her. I honestly think she would. I feel like Grace was a comforting personality to Mini who Mini could rely on for support and advice. People like to say Mini is shallow or incapable of showing love. I agree that she has a hard time displaying her affection; however, just like most Scottish women (culturally) you fuck with the people she loves and she will make you disappear. She has a fierce love. Definitely a fierce love for Grace.
