Flow of Madness |
I write about pop culture and life in a philosophical way. Main topics include Skins, Harry Potter, Doctor Who, The Big Bang Theory, Avatar: The Last Airbender, and Ed Sheeran. I will also include anything else that tickles me. Feel free to say hi. Always glad to hear from all of you. Thank you for existing. |
Anonymous asked: who do you feel relates to skins more? teens or young adults?
Honestly I think both can relate to it. I think anyone going through a massive change where you are forced to grow up or make a change in your life can find meaning in Skins.
I was thinking about it and I am not sure that I would have enjoyed Skins as much as I do if I watched it in High School. Because now a days becoming a “grown up” facing the real world doesn’t really happen until you are in your mid-twenties. So I don’t think I would have found the meaning I find in it now.
I think for teens the emotions are real and to the point though. When you are a teenager everything you feel intensifies. Bad days are really bad. Fights with your mate seem like the end of the world. Your parents telling you can’t do something makes you angry. Like today I had to move a kid due to talking and it was like a personal insult to him. Until he calmed down and I was able to talk to him. During this time emotions go haywire. Doesn’t mean those feelings are any less real or true to the person, but they definitely are intense. Skins really shows that. So as someone in their mid-twenties I may not react in the way they do…however I do remember what it is like to feel like that.
But the themes of growing up, making life decisions, having relationships change, and moving toward a change. That is something that people in their twenties can relate to. Especially towards the end of University. Which is when I found Skins. I had some major changes during that time trying to figure out what I was going to do. Two of my friendships from High School changed dramatically. I lost two relatives I was really close to within months of one another. Still coping with the loss of my friend. That Skins just fit in my life.
I try explaining this to people, because I have been asked by many people why someone who is 24 would be obsessed with a “Teen” show. I also get asked that about Harry Potter. However the meaning comes from the viewer and if you find meaning in anything. Run with it. Because in this life meaning and truth are hard to find and when you find it…well you should never feel like you need to defend yourself.
