I write about pop culture and life in a philosophical way. Main topics include Skins, Harry Potter, Doctor Who, The Big Bang Theory, Avatar: The Last Airbender, and Ed Sheeran. I will also include anything else that tickles me. Feel free to say hi. Always glad to hear from all of you. Thank you for existing. |
orangeisthenewblue asked: Top five uses of music in scenes in Skins and why?
There are so many great uses of Music on Skins. I feel like Gen 3 in particular has some really Iconic moments.
1. Glockenspiel Song - Dog is Dead
The ending of 5x8 when the cast is dancing, happy, and free. Sending Series 5 out with a jolly good shout along. Fantastic. This song will always remind me of Skins and Gen 3 in particular.
2. Don’t You Worry - Lucy Rose
Used in 6x2 while Rich is watching home videos of Grace. The song is perfect to describe how Rich was feeling inside. That he doesn’t want to leave and he has this desire to comfort her. To be there with her. But he can’t so he’s looking for an outlet…and finds it in those videos. It also fits so well with the line he spoke “Don’t worry, I’m here.” It is just the perfect song, for a perfect character, who has the most pure kind of love for Grace.
3. Wild World - Cat Stevens (Skins Edition)
Another Iconic moment of Skins when the Skins cast sang “Wild World.” It was a perfect song and it is a moment that stands out in Skins history. Will always remind me of Gen 1.
4. Crystal Castles – Alice Practice
This song was playing in Sid’s episode in Series 2. Right after he finds his Dad died and he went to College. He goes to the club with Tony. This song starts playing and he just breaks down in Tony’s arms. The pulse of the song and the pain that Sid feels crying in Tony. It just worked. It was powerful.
5. Apparat - Black Water
This song was like a build up of tears for me. This played a couple times in 6x2. However it is the last use that was brilliant. The song is slow build up. It starts playing when Rich is starting to realize there is no way he could be talking to Grace. Then as the song continues and we learn more….its like i was fucking balling. It was just a great use.
Honorable Mentions:
Radical Face - Welcome Home for the proposal of Rich/Grace in 5x7.
Shifts - Over the Wall for when Gen 3 is running across the field after the non-wedding.
Hello - Martin Solveig & Dragonette for the Poppy/Alo dance in 6x7.
So may great uses. I still think that Gen 3 has had the best music of all the gens. Skins has always been BRILLIANT with their music. However I feel like Gen 3 has a more well rounded selection and has been using music in an innovative way.
I mean 5x2 “Rich” was a musically brave episode. Metal and Classical music. In many ways the music were just as important as the dialogue.
Award goes to the Gen 3 music. Honest. It’s been gorgeous.
