Flow of Madness |
I write about pop culture and life in a philosophical way. Main topics include Skins, Harry Potter, Doctor Who, The Big Bang Theory, Avatar: The Last Airbender, and Ed Sheeran. I will also include anything else that tickles me. Feel free to say hi. Always glad to hear from all of you. Thank you for existing. |
This is the fifth part of my Grace Effect series where I examine the relationships that Grace had with each of the gang and examine how they are coping.
These are the ones I have done so far:
Part 1: Franky/Grace
Part 2: Mini/Grace
Part 3: Nick/Grace
Part 4: Alo/Grace
So this installment is all about Liv and Gracey.
Relationship:
Liv and Grace have a special friendship. I think that in many ways Grace was the escape that Liv needed. Liv and Mini are great friends and they care about one another, but being friends with Mini can be exhausting. Liv and Grace both have a devil-may-care fun quality together. The main thing is that they made one another laugh and in many ways I think that Grace was where Liv received much needed emotional support. We actually learn more about Liv and Grace’s friendship in Liv’s Series 6 episode. The letter that Grace wrote Liv saying “Fuck Tragedy” and the video of Grace bouncing on Liv’s phone shows how Grace made Liv happy. She was Liv’s rock and her hope when things get too intense in her life or too intense with Mini.
Coping:
After Grace’s death Liv is the one that takes it the hardest on the surface. She starts to drink and party as a way to escape her feelings. Then when she meets Alex and befriends him he becomes an escape for her as well. Alex is not complicated with a past and knows nothing about Gracey. He’s a new beginning and something that is normal/hers. She begins to go down that road of partying and drinking away her problems. In her episode Liv hits rock bottom. Alex leaves and her distractions leave with him. She is now forced to face the changes in her relationship with Mini, mortality, and the loss of Grace. Liv begins to think that there is a lump on her front and starts to believe it is cancerous. Turns out if was a trick of the mind which happens when something traumatic happens that you ignore. I think it is also tied into the fact that Liv was in the car with Grace. Matty left her with a bloody and unconscious Grace. She literally saw destruction and survived. Then she was denied a funeral and a way to say goodbye properly. Liv goes through a lot and in many ways her story line is so heavily attached to the loss of Grace just like Rich’s.
