Flow of Madness |
I write about pop culture and life in a philosophical way. Main topics include Skins, Harry Potter, Doctor Who, The Big Bang Theory, Avatar: The Last Airbender, and Ed Sheeran. I will also include anything else that tickles me. Feel free to say hi. Always glad to hear from all of you. Thank you for existing. |
This is the third part (possibly final unless someone else envisions Grace—I suspect Matty) and this is all about Liv’s vision. Here are the first two parts Rich and Franky
In this post I will be examining the why, the what, and the whole picture of what the Grace in Liv’s mind meant to her.
As I wrote before Rich’s visions were about love, Franky’s was about guilt, and Liv’s was about support.
In Liv’s episode she is faced with the reality of being alone and isolated from her friends. Mini is keeping secrets. Liv resents Franky for spending so much time with Mini and is still harboring negative feelings about the accident. Rich has shut himself up in the library and seems to be okay. Matty ran. Nick’s preoccupied. Alo’s preoccupied. Alex went away. She is alone and has a grief that she has been running from.
The first time Liv sees her vision of Grace was at a distance in a haunting manner. This is when Alex is still around. It was a reminder of what she can’t escape from. That Grace died. When Alex went away and she was worried about being ill it was Grace who she talked to. She needed support and Grace in Liv’s mind would be the one she would turn to. From there the visions that she had of Grace are always jovial and supportive. The scene at the 99 % protest was Liv pointing out Liv’s assumptions about Mini. Then explaining that she cannot come back, because it was peaceful there. This is a comforting Grace addressing Liv’s fear of her own mortality as well as her grief for Grace. Liv was in that car with Grace and she could have died just as easily as Grace. She also saw Grace’s broken body on top of that car. Death is most real to her. Matty ran…she stayed. Then Grace showed up when Liv was going to the hospital to get checked up. Emotional support for a lonely Liv.
Clothing/Appearances:
Liv remembers and envisions Grace’s playful and supportive side. The Grace momentos she chose to look at is evident of that. Grace bouncing on her bed and a cute drawing saying “Fuck Tragedy.” The Grace she pictures is wearing playful fun clothes that remind me of the clothes that Grace designed for the fashion show in Series 5. She speaks in a supportive and playful tone. Not the tragic tone of Franky’s Grace or even the poetic tone of Rich’s Grace. A perspective giving fairy of fun is the Grace that Liv envisions. This is why the scene at the end of her episode made sense to me. Liv cherishes that Grace thing of smiling and laughing through life. What better way to remember her than to have a bit of a dance and a bit of a laugh?
