I write about pop culture and life in a philosophical way. Main topics include Skins, Harry Potter, Doctor Who, The Big Bang Theory, Avatar: The Last Airbender, and Ed Sheeran. I will also include anything else that tickles me. Feel free to say hi. Always glad to hear from all of you. Thank you for existing. |
This is my review of Episode 9. Let me know what you think! :)
Rating: 7/10
This episode was basically the building of the stage in which the last act will perform upon. Up until this point secrets were being kept and characters were being kept in the dark. This episode sheds light on many hidden feelings, hidden facts, and also hidden pain. The wool is being removed from our eyes and it is not a pretty sight.
Franky is channeling her guilt, her abandonment complex, and many other deep seeded issues into Min’s baby. She views it as a fresh start. A chance to make things right. It is unhealthy and the truth is…everyone is running…Franky though is running faster and further than anyone. She is confused about Matty and Nick…doesn’t quite understand what love is. Doesn’t know what it entails. I do have to say though despite my understanding of Franky the storyline with Franky/Nick/Matty is getting old. It’s not something I am too interested in. I am interested in Franky herself, but the triangle I feel is a huge distraction.
Alo finds out about the baby and it was indeed in a humorous way. Until I realized that Alo was going to storm off and let Mini down. The truth is…Alo has a right to be angry. Mini never told him. It doesn’t excuse some of the things he said or the disappointment in his reaction; however, she did lie to him for months. Then all of a sudden he finds out his life is going to change in such a horribly shocking way. Alo’s mind was fucked. Eventually with the help of Rich and the fact that Alo is not a dick he makes up for it. He wants Mini.
Mini has not told anyone about her pregnancy except when forced. She is scared and lives in fear of being alone. She needs support. Her mom is pressuring her to adopt. Alo did not provide what she needed. Things with Live are not perfect. She feels isolated and alone. Franky though has been support for her and so they decide to run away together. Despite the fact that Mini is a high risk pregnancy. Eventually Mini catches onto Franky’s strange obsession with her baby and tells Franky that she cannot expect to save herself by helping her. Thankfully she goes back home and is allowed to get her happy ending (briefly) thanks to Rich.
Nick and Matty are fighting over Franky. Though I feel the fight is about bigger issues than Franky. Nick and Matty have such a strange dynamic as brothers. There are more issues that we only know about slightly. Matty though has spoken truths even if they are things that people do not want to hear. I also may disagree with a few of them. However he is being honest. Nick is scared. He’s acting on the defensive. That is why he tells Franky to ring the police to get Matty. Only Franky can’t.
Rich, I don’t want to go into too much detail because I plan to write about him more substantially later. He is basically the Grace of the group. He has Grace’s phone so he knows about Mini’s love for Alo. He acts as support to get his friend together with Mini to take care of their child. To live the life he was never given a chance to have with Grace. I feel like the situation with Alo and the messages he has heard…has shaken Rich. Not badly. However we can see how much he is hurting not just with his eyes this time, but with his words and actions. It was also the first time since his episode we have ever been given a chance to see Rich alone.
The episode leaves on a cliff hanger about the health of Mini’s baby. As she starts to bleed.
Over all I thought this episode had some beautiful parts and some much needed scenes. We got closer to a character that has been absent for awhile (Matty). We got inside the head for a brief second of a character who has been emotionally distant (Rich). Everyone finds out about Matty being back and everyone finds out about Mini’s pregnancy. Matty and Nick have confronted one another. Now all we need is Episode 10 to tie the loose ends. I do have to say I am tired of the triangle and I hope that in Episode 10 we get more than just that.
Great acting by Freya, Alex, Dakota, and Will spot on.
Megan is amazing, really.
