Flow of Madness |
I write about pop culture and life in a philosophical way. Main topics include Skins, Harry Potter, Doctor Who, The Big Bang Theory, Avatar: The Last Airbender, and Ed Sheeran. I will also include anything else that tickles me. Feel free to say hi. Always glad to hear from all of you. Thank you for existing. |
This is a look into how Pandora is underestimated by everyone.
If you have ever taught teenagers or have been a teenager you may have been or may have encountered a certain kind of kid. This kid is a bit sheltered, a bit misguided, and definitely does not work to their full potential. The kids around this kid begin to label this kid as “dreamy” and “stupid.” Even the adults in this kid’s life reinforce this same idea that the student is somewhat limited or needs to be protected on the account of them being “useless” and “naive.”
What I am saying is sometimes the magic inside of us gets stiffed by labels that are forced on us and eventually accepted by ourselves. Pandora is a victim of low expectations and poor self-esteem. She has also had strange influences in her life. She has her mother who is controlling, stifling, and has filled Pandora’s head with negative things about the world. Making Pandora feel useless and unprepared for a harsh world. Then you have her eccentric Aunt who grows pot who is an eccentric influence in Pandora’s life. Then of course her new found friend (one of the first as well by the sounds of it) Effy. Though Effy comes to love and need Pandora. Sometimes Effy can be at times not the best friend in terms of encouraging Pandora to be more than useless.
In Series 4 we do not see much of Pandora. We only see her reaction to Thomas’s cheating then her attempts to cheer Effy up. Most of the time Pandora’s life is lived off screen. In Series 4 we see Pandora become more confident, gain some control, and focus on herself. I feel like Pandora finds the magic inside of her. Just like everything else though you cannot be the new person you discovered in an old setting. Because labels are powerful and if you change people who have known you forever will remind you of what you or accuse you of being something your not. Take for example Rich and Franky. They both change their fashion causing some people to feel that Rich and Franky are becoming people they are not. How does this happen? People get stuck on labels and forget that people have the ability to change or to grow.
I do think that Pandora getting into Harvard was a major stretch. However I do not think it is impossible for Pandora to be smart and work her way into a good school. The best thing about humans is that we are all resilient and capable of change. Pandora is not dumb by mental handicap she was naive due to a strange upbringing that never allowed Pandora to show what she was made of. There is more to Pandora than we all saw. I guess we all got fooled by the label including me.
