Flow of Madness |
I write about pop culture and life in a philosophical way. Main topics include Skins, Harry Potter, Doctor Who, The Big Bang Theory, Avatar: The Last Airbender, and Ed Sheeran. I will also include anything else that tickles me. Feel free to say hi. Always glad to hear from all of you. Thank you for existing. |
I wrote a piece on Rich’s sex life and I have dabbled around with Franky’s as well. So I thought it was only fitting to dedicate this post to Mini’s sexual journey.
I want to start off my analysis by saying that it is quite obvious that Mini is not 100 percent straight. It is hinted at in the novel and also in the television show. Notably by Mini’s girl crush on Franky and also comments made by Liv as well about Mini. Several other hints as well. However I do not think that Mini is completely gay either she is most likely in the middle of the spectrum.
I also think that her family history creates a complicated relationship between men and sex. Her father is an absentee father and her mother has been dating for years. Dragging boyfriend after boyfriend and bedfellow after bedfellow home. All of them left just as fast as they came. All of this male disappointment alone would make it impossible to trust yourself with a man; however, Mini’s mother adds onto it with her own commentary. Saying things like men only want sex and that once they get it they leave. All of this creates a situation in which Mini does not want to have sex with guys, because they will all eventually leave and hurt her. This is vocalized by her Mom and reinforced by her father and the other men who dated her mother.
When she started to date Nick she found ways to avoid sex. Why? She legitimately liked Nick though it might have been for semi superficial reasons she still cared about him. She also cared about what he thought of her physically. She makes herself sound like she is experienced but in reality she is a virgin. She tries her best to avoid sex with Nick at all cost, because to have sex with Nick would mean she would lose the control she has over him. When she fears that she is losing Nick to Liv she decides to finally sleep with Nick out of desperation to keep Nick and feel close to someone. Every time she has sex with Nick it is uncomfortable and awkward. In part by Nick’s own complicated relationship with sex and partly because Mini is not comfortable with how vulnerable she feels in the situation.
Mini does not have sex with a man until the beginning of Series 6. She detours a little bit by her developing girl crush on Franky. It seemed to be ignited by a kiss that happened during rehearsal in Grace’s episode. This girl crush manifests itself through an outward showing of protective and affectionate behavior towards Franky. However Franky does not seem to return the feelings that Mini has developed and nothing physical happens between these two characters. Despite the fact that nothing comes of this crush the physical relationship that may have happened is definitely one on equal footing. Mini is not threatened in this situation, because her issues with intimacy and trust lies with men not women.
In Series 6 she makes a discovery that Alo has well endowed. It has also been several months since she has had sex with a man. Alo is a virgin who will say yes and will be easily controlled. This is what Mini thinks anyway. I think she enters a sexual relationship with Alo, because she thought she would have power over him. For a long time she did. She dictated the terms, the conditions, and the everything in their sexual relationship until she found out she was pregnant. When control was forcibly removed from her by circumstance.
To me Mini views sex as power. Or did view it as power. With Nick she felt as if she had no power in the situation; therefore, her sexual experience was awful with him. She then pursued a relationship with a woman whom she felt on equal footing with though nothing came out of it. Then she entered a sexual relationship with someone she viewed as her inferior feeling that she would have the upper hand only to find out her intention contrasted with the reality.
