Flow of Madness |
I write about pop culture and life in a philosophical way. Main topics include Skins, Harry Potter, Doctor Who, The Big Bang Theory, Avatar: The Last Airbender, and Ed Sheeran. I will also include anything else that tickles me. Feel free to say hi. Always glad to hear from all of you. Thank you for existing. |
I am sure there are more symbols that I could explore when it comes to Alex Henley; however, I am going to be focusing on these three mainly. Feel free to send your own symbolism interpretation or something else you see as a symbol for Alex. The way we go.
Dice:
That die is the center piece of Alex’s type of religion and way of living. In dream interpretation and the everyday connotation of dice refers to playing with fate, taking chances, and even the unpredictability of life. Alex is the type of character who goes with the flow of things and is in my opinion quite adaptable. The gang is mourning Grace and most of them are not handling it in the healthiest of ways. Many of them are trying to deny it, escape it, and bury it deep. They respond with rage when Alex asks about Grace or tries to get information about this mysterious girl that passed away. The gang has gotten burned by chance and the unpredictability of life. Alex is the type of person who goes with the flow use to not having those attachments. When his grandmother passed away Alex was sad and mourned his grandmother. However he let her go and wanted to share his grief and her story with this new group of people. Who refuse to share Grace’s story with him. It is an interesting thing though.
Boats:
Like with Cassie boats are a huge symbol for Alex. Usually boats represent escape but it also means journey. Alex is a strange escapist. He is not like Cassie in that he wants to run away from things. He instead wants to live though I’m sure escapism plays a part. Though not a full part. Boats are often the way in which we handle life’s issues. The water being life. Alex handles the random and curveballs for the most part quite well. Though he still has this burning needs to keep moving and not be tied to things. Cassie was tied to things and wished she could keep moving.
Number Six:
The number six on his index cards is always “run away.” After doing some research I found this about the number six.
The symbolism behind number Six is legend. With Venus as its ruler, Six represents harmony, balance, sincerity, love, and truth. Six naturally reveals solutions for us in a calm, unfolding manner. We invoke the Six when we need delicate diplomacy when dealing with sensitive matters. The spiritual meaning of number Six also deals with enlightenment; specifically “lighting” our path in areas we require spiritual and mental balance. Sixes beckon us to administer compassion and consciously choose forgiveness in a situation.
After this description I had one question: Does Alex run from solutions or does he run because it is the solution? It is an opportunity to meet new people, to change your attitude, to remove yourself from the situation, or to create distance. Does Alex’s running help or harm? His running feels quite different than Franky’s running…quite different than Cassie’s running. I feel like Alex runs to live. Runs to be free. Runs to take risks. Six reveals solutions and tends to represent balance. Is he running from balance or running for balance. I think he runs for balance. I wish we had more time with him. However, his running seems more light hearted than the rest.
