Flow of Madness |
I write about pop culture and life in a philosophical way. Main topics include Skins, Harry Potter, Doctor Who, The Big Bang Theory, Avatar: The Last Airbender, and Ed Sheeran. I will also include anything else that tickles me. Feel free to say hi. Always glad to hear from all of you. Thank you for existing. |
So these are my thoughts and reaction about Series 7.
It is definitely a huge risk that the Skins people are taking on. Considering many of the characters may not be all the fans favorites. People may have moved on. People may still be angry at being disappointed over the massive turn around for Series 7.
These are my initial thoughts on the Series.
Skins Fire: This is the mini film that focuses on Effy. Honestly the thing I am most excited about this episode is the promise for some Naomi and Emily action. My massive worry about this one is that Jess Brittain is writing it. I am not a fan of her writing style and I feel like she writes quite melodramatically. She is in charge of not handling one but three of our favorite characters. Two of them are in the most popular ship Skins has seen. Effy is one of the most easily dramatic characters to write as well. So I worry about the combination of her writing with this character.
I am not a huge fan of the job Effy has landed herself. Receptionist? But then again I know many young adults who are working jobs that kill their soul. So it is rather realistic that she is doing something so unlike Effy. I am not a fan of the affair with her boss plot.
I reckon we will have some Naomily scenes. I feel like they broke up while we’ve been absent from their lives and maybe they get back together in the special.
As for the tragedy it could be the tragic character that is Effy winds up getting herself too far gone to be saved. Or land herself into some massive trouble or get Naomi involved in something. Any of those ideas seem plausible at this point.
Skins Rise: Jamie Brittain is back worshiping one of his favorite characters, Cook. I feel like this episode can either be really good or really bad. I don’t think it will be in the middle by any means. It will either be the same old Cook plot. Which is he does a bunch of impulsive things. He gets in over his head. He loses all feeling of living and pretty much asks to get killed. Then comes through.
Or it can be poignant and they can do something with Cook besides the same cycle. That he has repeated over and over and over again. I hope that he gets a bit more development and less regression like we saw with him breaking out of prison.
Skins Pure: This is the one I am most excited to see. Cassie is such a complicated and interesting character. It will be interesting to see how much she has changed and what new issues she has. I think it will be a rather quiet and depressive episode. Mainly psychological. I bet Skins Rise will be rather physical. I hope that we get some information about Sid as well some closure on that point because I know many people are looking for it. Bryan is writing this one and he does good with Cassie. So I am most excited about this one.
As always always interested in your thoughts! Feel free to answer here or send it in.
Running is a theme we see in every single generations of ‘Skins’ and it often done by multiple characters throughout the two series each generation gets. In fact there quite a few running moments that I might not even address all of them. So if there is one that you want me to look at that I did not address feel free to ask. Let’s get running.

Anonymous asked: Someone completely copied your Effy Stonem analysis and reposted it...just thought I'd let you know.
I just contacted her hopefully she will take it down.
IT TAKES LIKE no effort to reblog.
Jal Fazer (Gen 1) & Effy Stonem (Gen 2)
I know…I know. Everyone is freaking out going: HOW IN THE WORLD ARE EFFY AND JAL IN THE SAME ZODIAC SIGN!!?!!? Trust me I was shocked as well. I have my reasons. I do.
The one thing about Capricorn is that it is the most general of the zodiac in terms of explanation and personality traits.
I will begin with Jal who I think is the more obvious of the two.
Jal is a Capricorn to me because she is the most hardworking of all the characters and Capricorn is known for its work ethic. She makes time for practice. She pursues her ambitions. She wants to make a name of herself. She does have goals that exist outside of her group of friends. She has self goals. Capricorn is also quite goal oriented. They tend to also be serious minded and Jal is quite serious. Also they have lovely sense of humors and Jal is one of the wittiest characters in terms of sarcastic come backs. They are also known to be reserved and prudent which is how Jal is viewed especially in Series 1. Jal represents the adult qualities that Capricorn offers. That responsible adult who enjoys a laugh but won’t lose sight of her goals. She also the advice giver. Se uses her skills, talents, hardwork, and mind in order to get where she needs to be. She can also be seen as aloof at times but really she cares deeply and is one of the most loyal personalities these are also traits that Capricorn is known for.
Now as for Effy. Again she does have psychological issues that are not her organic personality in my personal opinion. Effy compared to her brother is more calm, deliberate, and steady. She is not fire. To me she is Earth. She is also an initiator and a starter. All of this leads to Capricorn. She has a cold passion and Capricorns at their worse are seen as extremely elusive and mysterious. There is a secretiveness about Capricorns at their worse that hides so much to their personality and often times Capricorns work with a hidden agenda. Effy to me is that person who has so much to them that, that want so much, that feel so much, and want to accomplish so much that she lives by way of mystery to keep herself on track for those goals. She instead uses people and secret knowledge in order to accomplish her goals. Despite this though she still cares about people but she hates it and even people who she loves don’t truly know her. The closest one is his her brother .
To me Jal is Capricorn at their best and Effy is Capricorn at it’s worse.
This one is probably the most shocking
I have not matched every Avenger with a Skins character. However I have matched three.
Under the cut I will explain why the Hulk is Nick Levan, Ironman is Rich, and the Black Widow is Effy.

I was talking to my friend the other day about ‘Skins.” She was talking about how the show is an ensemble show with an emphasis on one character on particular that acts as the face of the generation. Many people argue whether or not Franky was the face of Generation 3; however, she was suppose to be so for this post I am considering her as the face. Anyway, she brought up the fact that it seemed to her that the face of all the generations tends to be the characters who might not be the most likable. They are not usually the ones you think to yourself “oh, man I want to be her friend.”
This intrigued me. So I wanted to do some digging about the three faces of all the generations: Tony Stonem, Effy Stonem, and Franky Fitzgerald.
Tony Stonem: Is someone who has sociopathic tendencies and a definite case of narcissistic personality disorder (apparently not recognized as a disorder—but he has it.) He manipulates people out of boredom to see what happens. He treats people as if they are pawns in his game disregarding their autonomy and their feelings. He uses sex as a symbol of his power over others.
However, by the end of the series due to massive head trauma and his recovery. Tony becomes a more thoughtful person and learns to allow himself to show his feelings a bit more than he use to. He becomes more human and humbled by his situation. Though he does crave for that power and that passion again.
Effy Stonem: Definitely has some sort of personality disorder. Psychotic Depression or Bi-Polar Disorder. She was selectively mute in the beginning and lived a double life. She does not understand the point of emotions and feels as if they get in the way. She plays games and uses people like Tony only sometimes she uses her powers to fix situations. Still she is quite secretive and is capable of using people’s weaknesses against them due to the fact she is quite perceptive.
By the end of the series she gets the help she needs and is on her way to recovery. She allowed herself to fall in love and even broadened group of friends to include several different personalities. She is also shown being more affectionate.
Franky Fitzgerald: She has extreme abandonment and intimacy issues. Which gives her that crazy pulling people told her and pushing people away at the same time vibe. She does not understand what love is and finds it quite baffling. In the beginning she did not have a real sense of self or identity. She is prone to run away from problems and accidentally hurt people as she runs and self-destructs.
At the end of the series Franky confronts her past and stops stringing along several of the other characters along her path of destruction. She is shown to have good intentions but she simply does not know how to love or what love is. However she desperately wants to find out.
All Three: Every one of the main faces of the series has issues with emotions especially love. Tony sees love in the beginning as a weakness. Refusing to declare his love for Michelle in fear that she will hold the power in the relationship. Seeing it as a sign of weakness. Effy sees love as something that is suffocating and that it actually crushes you by the intensity of it. Love tipped her over the edge psychological she did not know how to cope with the powerless feeling love gave her. Franky simply does not know what it means to love or to be loved unconditionally. She feels it with her adoptive fathers but she can’t comprehend or accept it after being denied it for so long.
The main faces of the show are three people who have issues with emotions and have deep seeded psychological issues. They push many of the plot points forward with their issues and the things they must learn. They are the…destroyers. Some may be more easier to love than others, but all of them hurt people some meaning it and some on accident. THE BRINGERS OF DRAMA!
I do plan to address the Moon conversation everyone has been talking about in my inbox :)

Top 5 Effy Quotes
Top 5 Effy Moments
Top 5 Words to Describe Effy:
mckaganduff asked: I'm not sure if you have already or not and I'm sorry if you have, but I was wondering if you could write about the significance of Effy and the moon as it's in both her episodes of season 3 and 4 (: x
I will definitely look into this a bit more but just on the top of my head of what I know about symbolism and what the Moon has always represented.
There are three main things that the Moon is connected with usually.
1) Motherhood/Femininity
2) Emotions/Senses
3) Fickle/Changeability
I doubt the first one applies to Effy. However the second one intrigues me. In Series 2 she had to do that art project expressing an emotion and she had a really hard time of it. She has issues with emotion and falling in love specifically. It is curious to me the moon is shown in both episodes as Effy takes on feelings head on in both of her episodes. Her entire journey is about letting herself feel something and then not being able to handle it.
Interesting.
