Running is a theme we see in every single generations of ‘Skins’ and it often done by multiple characters throughout the two series each generation gets. In fact there quite a few running moments that I might not even address all of them. So if there is one that you want me to look at that I did not address feel free to ask. Let’s get running.

Maxxie Oliver (Gen 1), Anwar Kharral (Gen 1), Sid Jenkins (Gen 1), JJ Jones (Gen 2), Alo Creevey (Gen 2), and Nick Levan (Gen 3) 

I know that’s quite a few Pisces. To me Anwar and Sid are negative Pisces. Maxxie is a positive Pisces, JJ and Alo are intermediate Pisces, and Nick represents the Pisces journey as a whole. 

Negative - Anwar and Sid

Pisces at their worst can be quite immature. They can be lazy. They can be self defeating. In fact one of the key themes of a Pisces is this sense of them being their own un-doing. They can pick the wrong company, can be pushovers, and can be quite overindulgent. Anwar suffers from being self-indulgent and he is quite lazy. Sid is the picture of laziness and is also self-indulgent. Both have history of picking the wrong people. Sid with his attraction to Michelle. Anwar with Sketch. They are both kind people though. Sid especially is a great friend and really cares about people. Really gets involved with his friends to the point that he feels what they feel. Though he doesn’t quite understand emotions quite yet. This doesn’t mean they can’t be anything more it just means that when we met them they were on the negative side of being a Pisces. 

Positive - Maxxie 

Pisces at their best are sensitive, supportive, helpful, intuitive, creative, understanding, loyal, generous, and above all else kind. Maxxie is a sensitive soul that feels guilty about things and gets his feelings hurt when he learns that his bestfriend may not be okay with who he is. He is creative and enjoys dancing. He is a big dreamer which is another portion of being a Pisces. He has learned to listen to himself and listen to others so he does not have that self destructive side. However he does feel things intensely that it might take him a few days to get over hurt feelings or understand where his father is coming from. He is also kind and loves everyone which is another Pisces trait that gets overlooked. Often times they can be quite accepting and wants to help make people feel better. For instance correcting Sid about Cassie’s beauty. He is a adaptable as well. 

Intermediate: Alo and JJ. 

Alo and JJ both care about what people think and also care about people in general. They can see things in people and are not fussy when it comes to people. However they also fall victim to Pisces trait of being a victim of themselves. In terms of self doubt. JJ lacks confidence and cares quite a bit about what people think of him. Allowing more forceful personalities to take control. However once he begins to have faith with himself the more positive traits begin to show. Alo is the same way has the irresponsible and lazy side to him that many Pisces have. Creates more problems for himself and often times gets sensitive and lost in their own emotions that sometimes he may not be fully present at times. However he is a good guy that cares. Only he cares too much about what people think. 

POSTER BOY OF THE PISCES JOURNEY: Nick

Nick is a victim of himself and his sensitivity toward how people think of him. It started with his Dad and his brother. He also can be lazy. When we see him we see him as an emotional guy who doesn’t want to be honest with himself. He feels so much and most of his feelings are pulling him into separate directions. Being what his Dad wants and doing what he wants. Doing what his girlfriend wants or doing what he wants. Helping his brother or falling in love with Franky. He is a bundle of emotions and none of them makes sense. He’s a nice guy though so he pushes the emotions down for the most part. Which creates even more problems for himself. He would do anything for his friend and he is a good listener. He is compassionate and loyal. Generous to the max. He can be indecisive but when he knows what he wants he can have quite a work ethic at times. The journey of Pisces is learning to listen to yourself in order to get those two fishes swimming in the right direction. The journey of Nick is to start being his own man and start being the leader oppose to allowing his emotions and others conflict his journey. He is a big bundle of feelings and that is exactly what Pisces can be. 

Also despite all of these characters who may seem weak and some of them are especially in certain times throughout the show. However the main thing about Pisces. Is for them to learn that they are tougher than people think and for them to understand that.

Top 5 Nick Moments: 

1. (5x5) Nick standing up to his Dad: This was the moment that I began enjoying Nick as a character fully. Before this moment he was realizing that it was exhausting trying to be something he didn’t want to be. This moment was when Nick was fully realized. That he could be his own man. Do his thing. Take action in his life. 
2. (5x8) The speech to Blood: After realizing what he wanted and what he didn’t want to be. Nick went on a drinking binge. Feeling shitty about himself. In this moment I think Nick fully became part of the gang. It also showed his heart. Nick has quite a bit of heart. This moment showcases it so well. 
3. (5x5) Moment with Franky: Nick is at his lowest point at this part of his episode. He fucked up with his Dad, he fucked up with rugby, he fucked up with Mini, he fucked up with Liv, and he fucked up with his brother. He is sitting here on the swings drinking his vodka feeling like the biggest dick in the world. Wondering why he does the things he does and trying to figure out where to go from here. Franky comes and sits next to him. This girl he posted pictures of in a mean spirited attack sits next to him to tell him he’s not a complete Dick. It’s a sweet moment. It also showcases the constant “pulled into several different directions” feeling that Nick is known for. 
4. (6x10) Moment with Matty after Franky breaks it off: I liked this moment because Nick stopped Matty. Who wanted to continue pursuing Franky. Nick forcefully tells him to stop and have a drink with him. Then showed again why he is the guy with quite a bit of heart. Telling Matty that he did show he loved him. Having a much needed Levan bonding moment. Also showing that Nick is turning into that good man he wanted to be. 
5. (6x6) Telling his friends he needs help: This moment was so sad. Nick is being torn into a million different directions. He feels so conflicted over everything. His own feelings about Franky and Matty. Guilt. Sadness. Longing. Everything that is going on. He tries to get help from Alo, but he airs his dirty laundry in front of the whole group. Forcing him to let out his burden to all of them. Showing his vulnerability and they all react in ways he both knew would happene and hoped wouldn’t happen.

Track Name: Ever Fallen in Love? by Nouvelle Vague 

Played When: Nick went into Franky’s episode as Franky was changing. 

This song is quite sexy. It definitely vocalizes the narrative in Nick’s head. He’s falling for someone he really shouldn’t. Complicating relationships and complicating his own internal monologue. This song is sexy and it’s a solid song. Nicely used as well being that Nick was to one to put it on. 

Skins Tracks #38 - Skins Series 6 Episode 6 “Nick”

Song Name: Lost and Found by Johnny Flynn

 Played When: When Franky / Nick are riding home before it starts raining. 

This song is absolutely fantastic. Great song. Johnny Flynn is also one of my favorites. The song works well with Nick. I think that it works well with mayn of the characters actually. Interesting placement, though!
