Flow of Madness |
I write about pop culture and life in a philosophical way. Main topics include Skins, Harry Potter, Doctor Who, The Big Bang Theory, Avatar: The Last Airbender, and Ed Sheeran. I will also include anything else that tickles me. Feel free to say hi. Always glad to hear from all of you. Thank you for existing. |
Alright I told you my first two favorite scenes and now these are my last two favorite scenes of Generation 1’s finale.
3) Chris’s Funeral

This scene was so heartbreakingly perfect for Chris. Everyone is together grieving. Chris’s Dad is forced to actually listen. They got to grieve in their own way. I also love Jal’s speech absolutely perfect.
“I’ve been thinking about what Chris would have wanted me to say today. The advice he’d give me. Which would be something, like, ‘you know what, babe, fuck it. These guys know all about me. Tell them about someone different.’ So I thought I’d say something about a hero of Chris’s. A man named Captain Joe Kittinger. In 1960, climbing into a foil balloon, Captain Joe ascended 32 kilometers into the stratosphere. And then, armed only with a parachute, he jumped out. He fell for four minutes and 36 seconds, reaching 714 mph before opening his parachute five kilometers above the earth. It had never been done before and has never been done since. He did it just because he could and that’s why Chris loved him. Because the thing about Chris was he said yes. He said yes to everything. He loved everyone. He was the bravest boy…man I knew. And that was…he slung himself out of a foil balloon every day. Because he could. Because he was. And that’s why…and that’s why…we loved him.” - Jal.
4.) Sid and Tony saying goodbye.

This scene makes me cry the hardest. Tony and Sid saying goodbye to one another. I think what strikes me about this scene is how much Tony is really shaken by Sid leaving. And how he fully admits his feelings in that he is scared of everything changing and having to say goodbye. It is a real breakthrough moment for Tony. It really shows how much Tony has gone through and how much he has changed from that cocky and distorted we met Series 1 Episode 1. I have to say I like this Tony.
Tony: What if I’m not ready for this.
Michelle: For what?
Tony: For all of this.
Michelle: But you sort of have to be.
I have four moments that I want to talk about in this fantastic fantastic episode. So I am going to break it up into two parts. This post will have the first two moments and then the other post will be about the last two moments.
Here are the first two!
1) Stealing Chris’s Coffin

This was the perfect scene. It was so Sid/Tony and I really think that Chris would have been so amused by the entire situation. It was also when Sid and Tony forgot the messed up awkwardness between the two of them and actually went back to their old selves. It is absolutely a hilarious and priceless scene.
2) Michelle’s talk with Jal at the Zoo.

Michelle and Jal have a cute friendship. I loved this scene. Because it really brought back why we love Chris. And it allowed Jal to remember him but not be so defeated by his death. It was just a gorgeous scene.
Michelle: This is where I first met Chris. I was seven. His mum got to talking to mine, and he was this funny little kid with his hands down his pants doing impressions of the fish. I don’t know if he thought he could talk to them or…..I’m not saying forget about him, because you can’t and you shouldn’t. He was special. But I just think….fuck it.
Jal: What?
Michelle: Like Chris. He said “Fuck it. I’ll do it my way. And the people that love me will understand why I’m doing it because they love me. Fuck it.” Come on. You don’t think he’d say exactly that if he was standing here?
I have two favorite episodes from Series 2 that I wish to talk about. Series 1 for me was basically me loving Sid Jenkins and rooting for him all the way. Series 2 it was all about Chris “The Monkey Man” Miles. I loved his growth in Series 2 and I was so sad that he had to die once he starting to get some stability in his life. Damn writers. But I think they handled his life and death with care and respect. So I take comfort in that. So here are my two favorite episodes of Series 2.
First: Episode 5 – Chris

This is when Jal and Chris make a pact. Chris will stop saying “fuck it” and get a job and try to get his life together even if it is hard. And Jal will stop saying no…she must live a little. This also marked the beginning of the relationship between Chris and Jal. This episode also had some great comedic scenes such as the one with Chris in the career office explaining why he failed at several jobs. Cassie also moves in with Chris which is the beginning of their close friendship. Chris also fucks up horribly when Angie returns and his presentation to Jal was absolutely heartbreaking. This episode also has some of the greatest lines Skins has ever had. It is simultaneously a comedy and a beautiful story of a great character.
“It’s kind of easy when you have nothing, because nothing can be taken away from you. But I don’t want nothing anymore.” – Chris
Second: Episode 10 – Everyone

This episode makes me cry so hard. Yet it has one of the funniest scenes and that would be win Sid & Tony steal Chris’s coffin. That was classic. I thought that the funeral was beautiful and so Chris. I have to say Chris would have loved everything they did for him. From stealing his coffin to what Jal said at the funeral. I cried so hard at the funeral. Then I cried so hard when Tony brought Sid to the airport so he can go and find Cassie. It was beautiful. Even though we did not get the closure I think the fans craved. The Generation finale was complete. We may not know if Sid found Cassie or what happens to them, but at the end of the episode you felt like it made sense. So I am just grateful that Tony didn’t end the shot by saying “I’m STONEM!” Just saying.
